Departure begins early from Cusco, around 4:30 am. The route heads south, gradually transitioning from urban space into open Andean terrain. The drive passes through Pitumarca and Ocongate, where small communities, grazing fields, and herding activity remain constant along the road.
Arrival at Pacchanta comes mid-morning. Breakfast is prepared by the Pachamama Expeditions team in an open setting, adapted to the environment—simple, warm, and integrated into the landscape rather than separate from it. Ausangate remains present above the valley.
The walk begins from here, following a gradual path across high-altitude terrain. The lakes appear in sequence, each shaped by glacial runoff and mineral variation. The route moves steadily, with small elevation changes and open views throughout.
Altitude defines the pace. Stops are natural, allowing time to adjust and observe. Herds of alpacas move nearby, and the presence of water remains constant as the trail connects each lake.
After completing the circuit, the return follows the same path back to Pacchanta. If conditions allow and the group prefers, there is time to enter the hot springs—an optional pause used for recovery after the hike.
Lunch is prepared and shared in the same open setting before beginning the return drive to Cusco, arriving in the late afternoon.
